Free acids in oils are determined. The number of KOH (potassium hydroxide) that can neutralize the amount of free fatty acid in -1g fat determines the amount of fatty acid. -Volume diethylether / ethanol mixture we mix equally (here is ethanol is solvent) Dilute up to 250 ml KOH -> 1mol 56 gr -> 0.025 mol koh = 1.4 gr -> 250 ml. RCOOH + KOH -> RCOO - + (K +) + H2O erlen 6.71331g oil is weighed. Diethyl ether / ethanol mixture (prepared on fume hood) 160ml oil and mixture are mixed in magnetic stirrer. -The KOH solution is placed in the burette. The titration is started.
